An initial, free consultation is offered to discuss your specific needs and to describe the service we offer. This is usually done via a telephone call or an email enquiry. Please do not hesitate to get in touch.

If our services are to be undertaken, you will be sent a referral form and questionnaire to complete (the forms can also be found here). This will provide us the information about communication, processing and medical history, along with highlighting your concerns, which will help in planning the assessment. The assessment appointment will be confirmed in an email or telephone conversation.

To secure the date and time of the first appointment, payment is required in advance. An invoice will be issued once the session arrangements are confirmed. Failing to attend the first appointment, or cancelling within 48hrs notice, will be non-refundable.

All our Prices are listed below. Click on a Service Offering to see further information:

Our initial assessment can vary depending on each individual’s needs / abilities and the first appointment can be for up to 1½ hours. It is not always possible to gauge if more than 1 assessment session is necessary from the outset and if further assessment is needed, this will be discussed and a continuation session will be arranged; this additional session will be charged at £70 per hour (note – this is on top of the initial Full Assessment and Report charge).
Upon completion of the full assessment, a detailed report with specific strategies and recommendations will be provided.

The initial assessment appointment is non-refundable if cancelled with less than 48hrs notice / not attending.

Some initial assessments require input from both a Speech Therapist and an assistant. This will be discussed when the first appointment is booked.
Following on from the session, a report will be issued with the findings and recommendations.

The initial assessment appointment is non-refundable if cancelled with less than 48hrs notice / not attending.

If a Speech and Language report has recently been completed within the last 3 months by another Speech Therapist, it may be deemed that our full professional report is not required at that time. An 1 – 1½ hour session will take place to review the report findings and to discuss next steps. A copy of the initial report will need to be sent ahead of the session to be reviewed.

If, after the review assessment, it is identified that a full report is required, this can be discussed with The Speech Den Therapist – please see Additional Detailed Reports and Programmes below for further pricing.

A therapy session is approximately 40 – 60 minutes. All decisions about therapy are made jointly with the parents/carers. The frequency and the location (e.g. at The Speech Den, home, nursery, school) of the therapy sessions are offered according to the individual’s needs and circumstances.

An individualised programme can be created for your child which includes:
  •  Clear goals for your child to achieve.
  • Detailed strategies and activities for you and/or staff to carry out.
  • Quality resources for activities within the programme.
  • Demonstration of the activities to practise in-between therapy sessions
  • Review of progress throughout the programme as required.

To achieve the best results, our Speech and Language therapists and parents/carers/teaching staff work closely together, with everyone actively participating in therapy. Therefore, someone will need to be present to work with the therapist during all of the sessions. Occasionally, our Speech and Language Therapists may work 1:1 with the individual for part of the session and spend the other part describing the aims and the detail of carryover activities.
If required, joint sessions with other professionals (e.g. Educational Psychologists, Occupational therapists etc) involved with your child may also be discussed and planned as appropriate.

Visits can be made to your child in their educational setting in order to:
  • Observe how your child communicates in their setting as part of a detailed assessment.
  • Demonstrate activities / train staff to support your child.
  • Meet with you and staff to agree a plan for supporting your child.
  • Provide intervention for your child within their setting.

Lengthy telephone conversations with other professionals (e.g. more than 10 minutes), reading of lengthy professional reports and attending meetings (e.g. annual reviews, planning sessions) will be charged in terms of the total time required.

Upon the undertaking of a Review Assessment, if it is deemed necessary for a report to be issued by our therapist, this will be discussed and agreed upon following on from that assessment.
Any additional reports, letters or therapy programmes are charged in respect of the total time required. You will be advised in advance of approximate costs.

Ordinarily, clients are seen at The Speech Den or nursery / school. Travel mileage to the individual’s location from The Speech Den in Cheltenham will be charged at 50 pence per mile.
Travel costs will be agreed prior to the appointment taking place.

If our therapist needs to drive for over 1 hour to a therapy session/location, this will be charged at an hourly rate, not a ‘per mile’ rate.
Travel costs will be agreed prior to the appointment taking place.

If you cancel an appointment at short notice (less than 48hrs notice) or do not attend at the agreed date / time, a charge will be incurred.

PAYMENT:

All fees are agreed prior to the start of the assessment and therapy. Fees should be paid by BACS or cash at the end of each consultation or month unless otherwise agreed.

Fees for all other services detailed above will be invoiced if applicable. Accounts should be settled within 7 days of an invoice being sent. An administration charge of £25 will be incurred for late payments.

RECEIPTS:

Receipts are issued upon request and will be sent once payment has been received.

TAKING DIGITAL RECORDING AND PHOTOGRAPHS WITHIN SESSIONS:

To help with the analysis of your child’s abilities, parts of the assessment sessions may be digitally recorded (visual and audio) to enable the therapist to carry out more detailed analysis after the session. Photographs may also be taken during sessions which will be used to help illustrate activities within the programme. The digital recordings also provide a historical record of your child’s progress and skills over time. Please see the Privacy Document regarding confidentiality and data protection.
